Nearing 80 years old, Wes Baden lives in the woods in midcoast Maine. He has reconnected with his past, returning full circle to 1974 when he was a doctoral student writing a dissertation about Latinate elements in the Anglo-Saxon poem Beowulf. Disenchanted with life in academia, he never finished the dissertation but instead dropped out and abandoned the degree. Subsequently, he went to law school and practiced law for many years, capping his legal career as a county attorney in Utah. Trips to Iceland, after retirement, renewed an interest in the Icelandic language, which he also had read in the form of Old Norse when the great translator, Hermann Pálsson, was a visiting professor at university. Wes resolved to learn modern Icelandic, and although he still has much to learn, he nevertheless is pleased to offer SAMTÖL CONVERSATIONS to readers both in Iceland and English-speaking countries.
